VIEDEŇ – Rakúsky tenista Jürgen Melzer oznámil svojim fanúšikom smutnú novinku. Posledný turnaj, na ktorom uvidíme bývalého hráča svetovej desiatky vo dvojhre aj štvorhe bude januárový grandslam Australian Open.

„Chcem hrať v Austrálii, pretože sa pravdepodobne turnaj odohrá za účasti divákov. Nechcem hrať môj posledný zápas kariéry pred prázdnymi tribúnami. Pred Australian Open sa ešte odohrá ATP Cup, kde by som chcel tiež štartovať, pretože každý kto ma pozná vie, že hrať za Rakúsko bolo vždy mojou prioritou,” napísal v liste pre svojich fanúšikov Melzer.

All good things come to an end, After 21 years on tour, the 2021 Australian will be my last tournament . In February I will start my new job as sports director for the Austrian tennis federation. I started playing tennis when I was 9 years old and I never would have dared to dream that at the end of my career I could call my self a former top 10 player in singles and doubles. Over the last 30 years I fell in love with that beautiful sport, there were not only good moments , but it’s those bad times that make you appreciate the good ones even more. Dear “tennis” you will always have a place in my heart. Now it’s time to say thanks to the coaches, friends and sponsors that have supported me throughout my entire career. Special thanks to my parents who gave me the chance to reach for the stars. Without them none of this would have been possible. Thanks Fabienne for always being there for me and giving me the opportunity to do what I love for such a long time . Thanks Gerald for being the best brother I could wish for and always putting our friendship before tennis. Dear Jocke Jan Ronnie and Michi, thanks for your dedication and hard work in order to reach my goals. With top 10 in singles and doubles we did quite alright ! 😉 Last but not least I would love to thank my fans . You guys have supported me all over the world. Big thanks to my Austrian fans . Winning in Vienna wouldn’t have been the same without a whole stadium behind me. I am happy that with my new job i will stay involved in this lovely sport. Take care Jürgen

Po konci kariéry bude mať nové zamestnanie

„Po ukončení mojej kariéry na januárovom Australian Open a zavesení rakety na klinec budem pracovať ako športový riaditeľ pre Rakúsky tenisový zväz,” pokračoval.

„Začal som hrať tenis v deviatich a nikdy by som nepovedal, že sa raz budem označovať za tenistu, ktorý bol v top 10 v dvojhre aj štvorhre. Za posledných 30 rokov som si tento šport zamiloval. Milý tenis, ostaneš navždy v mojom srdci,” úprimne dodal Melzer.
